Ahmedabad, the city of Ahmed Shah (Medieval ruler of Gujarat),
is known for its rich past and its association with Mohandas
Karamchand Gandhi. The city offers its travellers with a unique
style of architecture, which is a blend of Hindu and Islamic styles
(Indo-Saracenic style of architecture).
Most of the monuments in Ahmedabad date back to 15th century. Also
known as The 'Manchester of the East', Ahmedabad has become popular
world wide, because of the Mahatma Gandhi Ashram situated here.
Although Ahmedabad is a walled city, a large number of small and
big monuments dot the reign. The tombs of Ahmed Shah and his queens,
Bharda Fort, Dada Hari Vav, Sarhej Roza, Teen Darwaza and Jhulta
Minar are some examples of the architecturally rich heritage at
Ahmedabad.
