Surat
Location: 236 km from Ahmedabad.
About: South of Vadodra lies historic city of Surat which is
famous for its textile mills and ancient port. The city of riches,
of gems and diamonds is ironically renowned for its association with
a simple man, Mahatma Gandhi and reminds of India's struggle for
independence. The city is also famous for its beaches as well.
Located on the banks of river Tapti, the city is renowned for its
silk and silver threads. The workshop of Gujarat has diamond cutting
centers, ivory and wood artwork centers. Although there has been
industrialization but Surat holds back to its traditional values and
culture. The best time to visit the city is between October and
March.

Dandi - A place of great significance for India's struggle
for independence. Gandhiji marched till here to break salt law.
Dumas An excellent health resort with good weather
and great scenic beauty.
Gopipura An old village famous for its Jain temples.
Old Fort Built by Mohammed Tuglak to protect city
from Bhils.
Textile Market Surat is famous for its textiles. At
this market you can get some of the best buys.
Accessibility:
By Air: Domestic flights are available at regular interval
from Ahmedabad.
By Rail: Surat lies on Mumbai- Ahmedabad line so most of the
trains to Mumbai will stop at Surat.
By Road: Apart from State Transport Buses, there are taxis
available on hire. Within Surat auto rickshaws are best mode of
commutation.
